decouvrir le jeu

the tool used for our public consultation workshops

the «Jeu des 1000 modes»

This game is a “serious game” designed to help participants understand in a playful way how public road space is shared. It is used as a tool in our public consultation workshops.

Designed by todomodo, the “Jeu des 1000 modes” is a decision-making tool that puts you in the shoes of a public space planner.

After a brief overview of the challenges and recommended dimensions based on current best practices, participants are invited to recreate an existing space in their town, then work together in groups to introduce a new mode (for example, a bike path). These steps raise awareness of the difficulty of making decisions and the physical realities of existing public space planning.

The various ways of sharing the road are graphically represented on a map, creating scenarios with or without parking, with or without cars…

appreciate public space

The game includes cards depicting the various elements found in public spaces, drawn at scale to show the space occupied by each transportation mode, as well as cross-sections of a typical street in your neighbourhood.

As a group, you will collectively design a public space, taking into account the constraints of the existing environment, regulations, and guidelines.

work together and decide

Participants must work together to design a suitable street using the game cards: sidewalks of varying widths, bike lanes, bus lanes, tram tracks, roads, parking, green spaces, etc.

The goal: to understand that space is limited and to open a dialogue about everyone’s interests and the priorities that must be balanced to carry out a project.
